Re: Weights
For the cheapest route to acquire weight pouches is this:  You can order online enpty pouches, color coded for various weights and then go to Gander Mountain or simular store and buy a 25# bag of lead shot.  You will want the largest size bb's so they wont leak out.  To save even more money, you caould make your own pouches, but to find suitable material is a challenge.  You do need to have a kitchen scale that's accurate in the 0-10lb range.

Re: Weights
I would use your local dive shop, if we buy all our gear off the internet it won't be long and we will have to purchase our air off the internet,

Re: Weights

Very valid point. This outcome is already happening.

Re: Weights
Even though shot weights are confortable, they produce a lot more lead contamination than solid.  All that shot grinding against itself will produce dust.

Re: Weights
Shot purchased for shooting sports may not be stable enough for diving use.  But the shot in Sea Pearls and other soft weight packs is created with lead blended with Antimony to make an alloy that is harder than straight lead.  Otherwise the use and abuse would make all the lead crumble away in pools and lakes.  It's mostly Antimony dust that you see when you rinse your gear.

Re: Weights

The shot for shotgun shells is made the same, just like slugs for rifle shells.

Re: Weights
speaking of local dive shops, has anyone checked out Diver's Delight Scuba Depot in Port Washington yet to see what they offer?
