Apostle Islands
Hi all,

Anyone have any tips re: diving the Apostle Islands?

I have kayaked the area for years but this is my first
season as a diver.

Is the bouy still in Julian bay?

Are the Devils Island sea caves "better" than the ones
at Meyer's beach?

Any dive shops nearby?

Thanks,
-chris

Re:Apostle Islands
I think that it is better to "dive" the wrecks by kayak. Wink

I have dove the Pretoria and it was only an OK dive. It was really much more interesting to paddle over the shallow wrecks and look at them from above. The Sevona looks interesting, but at only 25' it would be a better snorkel than a scuba dive.

I am not sure of any diveshops because we trailered our own boat and brought our own tanks up there last time I was there.

What is the best way to get to these wrecks? Where is the nearest port?

Re: Apostle Islands
Has anybody dove up near the Apostle Islands...any good sites? Also, does anybody know of a good place to charter a sailboat w/captain for the day? one final question for y'all (a flash back from living in Georgia); How about a nice place to stay?
The "dive master" and I are thinking of going in late June so any info. would be very helpful.

Thanks
Chad

Re: Apostle Islands
I've been chartering sailboats up there for 4 or 5 years so send me a PM and I'll share what I know. Being this isn't a sailing board...

I've also dove the islands last summer from shore you can see some interesting stuff.

Look at MNScuba and read the Shore Dive post I started it lists island diving and I have some GPS for you is you want them.

The book, By Fire Storm and Ice is all about the islands and is worth a used book price.
