Large Area Search/Boat Operational Diving Course
Scout Leaders Rescue Squad in Kenosha is sponsoring the LGS Large Area Search/Boat Operational Diving Course Sep 7-10th and we would like you to join us..........

The lake is 32 miles long and 6 miles wide.  The witness said they saw the boat overturn somewhere "out there."  Two kids are missing.  What do you do?

Learn what to do in the first rescue hour and in the ensuing recovery operation.  In this class, instructors will drop an infant mannequin over the side of a moving boat.  Students will interview witnesses, develop a rescue mode search plan, and execute the plan.  Boat handling will be covered as necessary.

Large Area Search/Boat Operational Diving

This 3 ½ day course will make you safer and more effective - or you don't pay!

Some of the topics covered:

Plan and execute large area search rescue and recovery operations
Use advanced witness interviewing techniques with map drawing, vessel trajectories, givens about the body of water, etc. to narrow the search area
Learn GPS 101, which may be a refresher for some students.  Then learn advanced techniques to use GPS in large area search operations.
Practice the skills necessary to rapidly deploy a buoy grid system in the designated search area.
Learn the art of hurricane anchoring, which is a three anchor system used to keep the dive platform in place no matter how hard the diver or divers pull.  Not only will you be able to keep the vessel in place, but you will be able to anchor the vessel in any specific location, which will be checked by GPS or DGPS.
Search a 25,000 to 35,000 square foot area in a single day, without ever once starting the motor of the dive vessel.  This will be documented with profile maps and GPS.
Work on boat operation contingency planning to keep everyone safe.
This course is also excellent for Marine Patrol Officers.

Course Costs:

Awareness level - 4 hours classroom :  $20.00

Divers:  $295 includes wall certificate, Photo certification card, handouts, and use of specialty equipment (e.g. pony bottles, regulators, harnesses, and more).

Tenders:  $100 includes wall certificate, handouts, Photo certification card available for $20 upon successful course completion.

Re: Large Area Search/Boat Operational Diving Course
How did the training go? I have taken the Rapid Deployment Search and Rescue class from LGS (Butch and Andrea) and it was a pretty intense week.  Sounds like many of the things in this class were covered in my class as well.  Just looking for some feedback.

Thanks,

Re: Large Area Search/Boat Operational Diving Course
The class went well.  Great weather the first 2 days.  The next two were rainey and cold.  This course taught how to anchor the boat to be used as a moveable, stable platform to do tended searches from.  We could work off of back, front, or sides and when an area was secured, move the boat to the next search area without ever starting a motor or even pulling divers.  You can search a very large area very quickly.  We did training in Kenosha Harbor/Lake Michigan and Powers Lake in Kenosha County.
