I agree, GIMP has just about everything Photoshop has, and the price is right. In fact I use it on all my linux boxes at home. The only real difference is that Photoshop CS now handles RAW images from the various digital camera manufacturers, whereas GIMP does not. This means you don't have to export from your camera, through your camera's propriatary software, to your machine and then convert them into something GIMP can read like tiff or jpg.

Oh... and for those Mac OS X users out there... stick with iPhoto... GREAT for organizing all your photos, easy to create slideshows, and export images to smaller jpg formats (and it too reads many RAW images). 10.4's iPhoto now supports color corrections, red-eye reducers, etc.
