Today was the first day of the annual "Stake in the Lakes" clean-up dives. The Madison Four Lakes Scuba club hits all four of the lakes in an effort to help clean them up each year. Today was Kegonsa, and tomorrow is Waubesa.

Vis wasn't that great, but the water was warm eough for me to freedive in my 3mm, and not be cold! ;D

We had plenty of bottles, anchors and fishing poles collected by the end of the day- as well as lots of trash.

Here's some of the group at the dock.

This is actually pretty good for this lake- which sits at the bottom of the Madison chain. On Monday the Secci disk reading for this lake was 3 meters, for Waubesa it was 4 meters, for Monona it was 8 meters, and for Mendota it was 10.1 meters! All the rain we got this week has cut down on that vis quite a bit, but the water was still warm(ish).

Actually, Ken did pretty good considering the bottom conditions.

Tomorrow moring it's Lake Waubesa at 9am.

We jumped into Waubesa to do some more clean-up dives and found lots of junk- chairs, tires, pole, reels, anchors, bottles, ect.

The vis was pretty bad, even worse than yesterday, so it's not even worht posting a photo. :'(

Yeah, the rain has definitely played havoc on the viz...Red Granite is pretty poor right now. The middle range (30-60), the viz is only a few feet. It opens up decently after 60, but nothing too great. Still an enjoyable two dives there today, but nothing like the diving a month ago.
