Nothing against ice diving but it is much harder (for me at least) to get a group (and equipment) together.  At least not as often as jumping in with just a buddy.

Yeah, I know I won´t be favored on this one.
I don't think you are going to get many arguments.  The best way to ice dive is to go after a class, so the hole is already cut.  The only disadvantage to this is the lack of visibilty that often occurs.  Or pay the $10 Wazee sports charges, have somebody else cut the hole, and get fed!
I like the group event thing, ussually great food (like chili)afterwards to warm up back at the shopSmile.
I agree.  These events are few and with sporadic weekend work, hitting one while off is hit and miss.
How are the lakes faring with regard to ice?
I sent the Christmas...I mean holiday... thread into a discussion about ice diving, so I split it.  Proceed ;D

For Christmas I want....oh wait, wrong thread!
Lake Mendota was at 42 degrees last Sunday.
Skumbago is ice covered.  Haven't checked thickness.
You make it sound so enticing  ;D.
We were out this morning on one of the retention ponds here in Fond du Lac and it took some effort and tools to get through the "weak" ice.  The "weak" ice was almost an inch thick and there wasn't a whole lot of it....

I would be pretty surprised if Wazee or RG were still open with the temps we have been having and with the forecast for next it shouldn't be long before we are ice diving.
Any updates on area ice? I'd like to get out in the next week or 2 if possible.
