I am interested in feedback.

A very general somewhat correct article. Actually the term "DIR" was brought about by G.I.3 in an article he wrote (Do It Right or don't do it at all) . The "DIR" standards, (hogarthian) gear config, gas selections, protocols, etc were originally developed by/for the WKPP. GUE came about after that (formed by JJ and some other top WKPP divers) to promote these "DIR standards" as a training agency. Besides their cave and tech classes, at this time GUE only does a "DIR Fundamentals" class for regular open water divers to "sample" the DIR diving philosophy. There are plans to have a GUE "basic openwater" class, though as far as I know nothing has been announced about a starting date.
Thanks Matt!

I have updated the article to include some more links and to generalize the hose length statements. I also added a bit about the cave diving origins of DIR.
